About

ACCESSIBLE FITNESS was founded by Timna Hurwich, who left a career in business development and public relations to certify as a personal fitness trainer at AAPT in New York City (http://aatp.edu). Shortly after completing the course, Timna had the opportunity – rather, the privilege – to train a blind friend and learn to do so without relying on visual aids. Whereas this experience was initially intended solely for her professional and personal edification, the insight she gained into the obstacles encountered daily by the visually impaired soon transformed her interest into a calling.

Timna returned to Israel in March of 2017. And, while taking her first steps toward rebuilding her career as a personal trainer, she sought out accessible fitness facilities properly adapted for the blind and visually impaired. What she found instead was minimal to no awareness, and her disappointment fueled the solution.

In this day and age, initiatives emphasizing the importance of exercise to our well-being abound. And, with ACCESSIBLE FITNESS, Timna hopes to broaden the scope of the conversation to include the blind and visually impaired people who live, work, and wish to work out in our midst.
